I have been teaching on and off for over 2 decades. In that time I have 3 instructional DVD's, a book published by Mel Bay and hundreds of hours of home instruction to my credit. Believe it or not there is a similarity in directing and writing for TV and entering your home to teach drums to yourself or your children; you are inviting in a point of view. An opinion. A trusted person that can entertain as well as inspire you or your children to be better everyday. Read More

I like to emphasize what good practice means and how it relates to my students' goals. I then teach larger musical concepts through the pieces of music that my student wants to learn in order to maintain motivation and interest- music is meant to be fun and enjoyable after all! I'm happy to head in whatever direction my student wants, whether thats continuing to learn songs, making thier own music, or delving more into music theory and intrumental techniques. Read More

Evan has also done session work as a drummer-for-hire with independent rock bands, most recently on Sub:Om’s Back to the Source. When Evan's not drumming, he's composing. He's created music and mixed sound for independent film and new media, and recently won a Best Sound Design award for his work on indie feature The Good Hearts Club. Evan's style is heavily influenced by classic jazz and funk records, the ‘90s music that sampled them, and a lifelong obsession with Mozart. Read More

I really work hard to customize the lessons to each student, discussing with them (or their parent) what their goals are.  For beginning students who are children, I use a few great books, some of which I even learned out of when I took my first lessons at age 6. For older students, I try to be open to any material they're intrested in.  If a student  is set on learning to play Beach Boys songs, we don't spend so much time on the classic technique and rudiments BUT over the last 15 years I've developed a system of incorporating fundamentals into practical application that gets my students playing real songs right away while improving technique. My first experience teaching came during my time on the high school drumline. My school couldn't afford to fund faculty to lead the drumline, so during my junior and senior years, I took on the role of teaching new students, some of whom had never even held a drumstick, to be performance-ready in a short amount of time. When I moved to Los Angeles for school in 2013, I began teaching drum and guitar lessons in my free time, to fellow UCLA students at first, then expanding to the greater Los Angeles community, teaching students as young as six. This continued, grew and developed throughout my 5 year tenure. As required by music education minors, we had to participate in finding an accredited school system and observe for one year and assist for one year. I was fortunate to discover String Theory Charter School in Center City Philadelphia and began walking to the school every morning before my classes started, sitting in the back of the classroom taking notes and shadowing the orchestral and vocal teachers as they went about their morning classes, absorbing as much information as I could. I'm a passionate and dedicated music instructor with 10 years teaching and 15 years playing experience. I have toured extensively throughout Australia, the United States and Canada as a performing musician and songwriter in multiple acts, and have recorded in top studios in all 3 cities. I am degree educated in popular music and performance, and thoroughly enjoy bringing that wealth of musical knowledge and experience to every lesson I give. I can teach in students homes, or alternatively I enjoy teaching in my own Hollywood apartment studio. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
