I currently work as the violin instructor and coordinator for Pacific Symphony's Santa Ana Strings. have taught students from the ages of five to adults. My students hold a busy schedule with violin recitals and are also given the opportunity to participate in master classes. If a student has never played violin before, I usually start out with a combination of the Suzuki method, the American Fiddle Method, and Jazz Fiddle Wizard to develop a holistic approach, comfortable with playing multiple styles, improvising, and playing both from sheet music and by ear from the very begginning.  After the fundamentals are grasped, I ask the student what he or she really wants to play, and we develop technique and theory based on his or her favorite songs. My teaching experience dates back to my freshman year of high school where I tutored a younger student through the Suzuki Method for the next 5-6 years until she went off to college out of state. I have taught part time through the Chicago Public Schools where I worked with two kindergarden aged students. I have taught private lessons, part time for over 15 years. The instruments I teach are the piano and violin. I find that students progress more with regular short intervals of daily practice. I like to make the music fun with songs that children like and then have other books with the basics. For adults I like to start with folk songs, classical music, and showtunes. My students learn with a variety of books from a lesson book to a notes speller to a classical book. Read More

I am an active member of Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC). My students take the Certificate of Merit (CM) test annually in performance, theory, sight-reading and ear training. Taking the CM test is optional but highly recommended. I also make sure my students have plenty of chances at performing on stage at recitals by organizing my own recitals or joining forces with other MTAC teachers. Having a recital to practice for is a great motivation for students to practice daily and gives the parents the chance to see their children's accomplishments. Read More

This is why I love teaching a broader spectrum of music including pop songs and ear training, to equip many kinds of violinists in today's culture and bring violin into modern music as well as classically training students to allow them to pursue violin in any way they choose.
