My teaching style is a mix of fun and education. I was a student who struggled with ADD and I want to make each student's learning experience fun as the rudiments are mastered. I include drum set sheet music, and learning the student's favorite songs at their pace. If they need help with school band charts they are welcomed to bring them for study at the lesson. I love to build a curriculum that is specific to each student's needs. I.e. I like to work with students and help them reach the goals that they have set for themselves. For beginning students, I first incorporate the fundamentals of each instrument while catering to their musical interests, along with encouraging them to take regular performance opportunities. I want students to focus on the technicalities of what they are doing, but relate it to how it relates to performance and musicality. In students analyzing what they are doing to create sounds, I am guiding musicians to be reflective in their practice and performance, which I believe is one the key characteristics of becoming a life-long performer and learner. As my students progress, I will have them learn songs on the drum set by ear and by reading charts. I will also give them more difficult sight reading and limp independence exercises. Finally, I will show my students how to apply all of these methods to their own style of playing. At the end of the day, music is all about having fun and expressing yourself!
