My teaching experience dates back to my grad school years, as I began teaching private lessons part time in 1995. Since then, I have been teaching more and more students both privately and in school setting. I have taught in Park School, The Friends School in Baltimore area, and Towson University preparatory music department, and currently I'm a faculty in McDonogh School Private Music department. I have several tools that I use to get students playing music.  One of my favorite tools is the Music Flashcards made by Bastien.  Rather than teaching notes using an acronym like "every good boy deserves fudge" to teach notes, I use landmarks which get students to see the relationship between notes and allow them to read music with fluidity and ease.  I pair these flashcards with Music Tree book 1 and feel that they compliment each other very well. Helping a student reach their musical aspirations and developing their love of music has always been my mission. I help students set goals for themselves, and guide them to those goals through music I choose and music the students are interested in, which I sometimes let the students choose themselves. I do not teach with one method but what the student needs or requests. It is not what I want but what the student wants. I use both the Suzuki method and the traditional method and sometimes I combine them into my own method to give the student what he/she needs. I method is just a way to achieve an end result. The most rewarding thing about teaching for me is to see my students develop their own passion for music. In order for that to happen, it is crucial that each student moves and progresses at his or her own pace. Doing so would then allow realistic goal-setting, allowing both me and the students to acknowledge their accomplishments, thereby motivating them to learn more. Currently, I teach at at an elementary school in Palm Beach County. (Florida Public Schools) I am teaching ages k-5 general music, chorus, and band. The instruments I teach weekly include trumpets, violins, flutes, keyboards, piano, guitar, and bass. When I student taught high school teachers at the Boston Latin School, (Boston Public Schools) I taught chorus, string ensembles, AP music theory and all ensemble instruments in every family.
