I began teaching about three years ago. I mostly have taught younger students, and I love to watch them learn and develop a passion for music. I like to look for fun ways to keep students motivated. I like to use lots of humor while I teach because I think learning should be fun, and music is an amazing art. My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More

My lessons are all about fun! I see what you can play already, what you like to listen to, and I adapt to how you learn best. I pick songs that you enjoy that are also going to teach you how to play the drums! At the same time, I'll introduce exercises that relate to what we're playing that will transfer to other songs. Practice, of course, is important to learning any skill. But if a love of the instrument is there, practicing shouldn't be too much of a chore. I try to never give my students too much material at once, so as to frustrate them to the point of not wanting to play anymore. My teaching experience began in high school as a teachers assistant for a percussion ensemble class as well as helping with an after school percussion/hand drums club. I'm currently in a metal band, based in Portland, that tours every year. I also work as a session drummer for touring bands. The largest show I've ever performed was in front of 80,000 people at Wacken Open Air in Germany. Ever since a child, I've loved learning, music and sharing my passions! Through grade school I grew into the role of a leader and a musical/visual artist. In 2018 I graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelors in K-12 Music Education with a minor in Spanish. My years of teaching grade school has reaffirmed my passion for teaching, and drive to be the best teacher I can.
