I'm a professional jazz drummer, composer and educator. I'm originally from Venezuela and currently living in New York City. I attended to The Collective School of Music and The City College of New York where I earned, with honors, a Bachelor degree in Jazz Performance. I have studied with great players such as Kim Plainfield, Peter Retzlaff, Adam Cruz, Mark Ferber, Kendrick Scott and pianist and arranger Mike Holober. I've toured and recorded with some of the most renown venezuelan jazz and pop artists such as: Pablo Gil, Alfredo Naranjo, Leo Blanco, Laurent Lecuyer, Oscar Fanega, Virginia Ramirez, Nuevas Almas Ensemble, Movida Acustica Urbana (MAU), Luca Vicenzetti, Tumbador, among many others. My first priority as a teacher is to find out what the student is interested in. Why do they want to play? What music do they like? What are they hoping to accomplish? That is always my starting point. From there, I help the students reach their individual goals, while also teaching a basic curriculum I have designed myself in order to give the students the skills and knowledge all players require. I began to teach music when I was in college, giving private drum lessons to several students. Since graduating, I have spent time teaching at several different after school music programs, teaching drum set and piano to students of all ages. I found that I really enjoy communicating with students and helping them find their own passion for music. To me, music is about having fun - this is what I strive to bring out in our lessons! I have performed in rock bands since I was 13 years old and through doing so I build a solid foundation of skills. However, I believe that I would have progressed more solidly, more well-roundedly, if I had also received instruction (aside from my father's) as to the ins and outs of important rock conventions, hand placement, fill technique, and methods for improving accuracy and speed. As a self-taught musician, I progressed largely because I'm an excellent listener and I love to challenge myself. Read More

I use many different methods but most importantly I tailor the lesson to fit the student's needs. I like to write out lessons, but I generally start my students off using Benny Greb's "The Language of Drumming." I like to teach the student how to play the instrument as if it were a language, in the form of an alphabet. It's a great method in building a strong foundation with the instrument. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to high school, when I began mentoring students under the direction of three of my High School Band directors. My teachers have instilled in me the importance of healthy and efficient playing and performance techniques that are sustainable and can last you a lifetime. Patience is key, progress takes time! In lessons we will work with exercises to show you the full potential of your instrument. Read More

I specifically make a plan for each student based on their need and goals. Unless the student has specific requests, I go over all the fundamental characteristics that a drummer need to have in order to play music, such as technique, time keeping, reading, and so on so forth. No matter what level or age the student is, play and study music has always to be enjoyable and fun. It's really important that the student feels always comfortable and relaxed in order to express himself at the best in every situation. Read More
