Basic Theory & Ear Training (Level 2) Theory and notation, rudiments, independence, new styles, and ear training! Level 2 is where you’ll start to develop skills in some core areas that you’ll continue to work on in subsequent lessons. You’ll learn some basic rudiments which are considered the alphabet of drumming, you’ll learn how to read drum notation and understand basic theory, you’ll learn how to practice effectively, and you’ll even dive into drumming styles like rock, punk, and metal. Chris Dorn is a professional drum instructor located in the Dutchess County area. He has been playing drum set and percussion for 30 years, and has taught in the Dutchess County area for 15 years. In 2007 he was the drum tech for Jessica Simpson setting up drums, percussion and recording gear all across the US. I believe in encouragement and positive reinforcement at every lesson. I feel that patience is an essential tool in teaching -- every student is unique and proceeds at his or her own pace. I also like to briefly demonstrate the exercises and techniques we are studying, so that my students can see and hear what they are working on, but the student does most of the playing.
