I try to adapt my teaching style to however I see the student (or peer) is most effective in learning. Some people are more chart based, and like the bars written out in time so they can follow it in a more technical manner. Some have a hard time reading music, so they go off of feel. I have played with high school bands at Carnegie Hall in New York and traveled to many places because of music. When I went off to graduate school my long time band mate went on the road as a professional musician. But I never stopped playing. I am very flexible with the students I work with. Depending on how you learn best, I will adapt to your needs. I can teach through the use of books (such as the Suzuki Method, John Thompson, etc) but I am also an advocate for learning by ear, transcribing and chord charts. I graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz / Commercial music performance. After college I spent years honing my playing skills in all types of musical situations as well as teaching, and working as a recording engineer. I will begin with what the student is interested in, work with songs or genres that they like and go from there. I will always make it fun and engaging no matter their ability level. I will teach with some of the Agostini's books for every level, and some books that I used in school. We will learn, develop rudiments, grooves, concepts ideas, independance together and make it fun.
