I think my folks realized I was serious, so they bought a little Woolworth's "kiddie" kit and set up drum lessons when I was about 7 and learned to read and write jazz and rock music with my instructor until I was 16. I love drumming, and love teaching it! I teach from my own written material inspired by my music experience at school and the lessons I've been taught over the years. I have written hundreds of pages of exercises from which to pull for virtually every difficulty and style. I have played literally thousands of original and cover songs with many bands. I love teaching, and I firmly believe that almost anyone can be taught to do almost anything! I have music degrees from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and USF in Tampa, Florida. After teaching at Hope for 6 years, I joined the Air Force to play with the world-class musicians that make up their bands. I spent 8 1/2 years in Colorado Springs stationed at Peterson AFB, and I loved it! I then moved to Illinois to be stationed at Scott AFB, playing with the USAF Band of Mid-America. Read More

I have always enjoyed teaching others. Even in high school, I consistently helped my peers with their learning and enjoyed helping them learn how to play percussion instruments. After starting college in 2009, I began formally teaching percussion privately and in groups at high schools in my area. I have since expanded to teaching guitar, bass guitar, and composition, incorporating compositional elements into all of my lessons. As well as studying what the student is enjoying lately, I would like my students to get a feel for and listen to many different styles of music so they will be able to play almost anything, and hopefully get a wider appreciation and understanding of music in it's many forms.
