Later on that year I started teaching at another after school program at the Village School in NYC until 2018. The pace of lessons is up to the student. I will guide each student towards their goal. There is nothing I love more than the moment a student has a musical epiphany. That "I get it!" moment. Music is hard. Learning an instrument takes time and practice. It's important to remember why we do it. I've taught in a myriad of environments. My earliest goes back to instructing marching band/indoor percussion programs. My most recent marching program was Fusion Drum Bugle Corps. My college studies helped me branch out musically, and thus I started dabbling in private instruction which I found very fulfilling. I was a graduate adjunct instructor at NYU, teaching primarily concert snare drum. Nowadays, I teach at private music studios (a la School of Rock) and am building up a studio of my own! Read More

I teach to each students style of learning and thinking, and approach my job from a place of complete respect for the students. The most fundamental quality of my teaching style is my desire to make everything I teach relevant and personal for the students, so that they truly connect to what is being taught, rather than simply learning facts and assimilating information. For a beginning student on guitar, I have them learning notes from a Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, or Alfred starter book. All these books are great, but I believe it depends on the individual student and how they learn. I also teach tab to beginners. I feel it is important to read tabs these days as well as notes. I also work with music theory. It is also important to know what you are doing, not just putting your fingers on the strings. Read More

For beginner level students I start out with learning how to strike the drum as well as simple coordination exercises and intro level drum beats. After the student can grasp basic exercises, I introduce learning how to read music which will lead to reading out of various drum set instructional as well as technique books. For more advanced students I work out of books focusing on furthering coordination and technique, widening the ability to play different styles, chart reading with play alongs, soloing as well as the students interests.
