Instruments: Drums Music
I have always taught in one form or another over the past 56 years, but spent the last 15 years honing my teaching skills and working with as many students at every level to ensure that what and how I teach is easily translated into plain language for the students. I've played drums and percussion in bands across many genres including Jazz, Rock, Soul, R & B, and Country. But I love to teach, which I do privately out of my home studio in Northern Westchester County, NY, as well as one-on-one lessons in your home. Read More

A strong foundation is key to becoming a good drummer. I also encourage students to play many styles of music. The more well rounded that you aremakes you a better player with the music of your choice. It's always rewarding to have astudent make it into All-County band. Many students start their own rock bands. To me it doesn't matter what style of music they like, as long as they enjoy playing. A 20-year veteran musician, I was working in Los Angeles performing with such people as Gregg Wright (Michael Jackson's former guitarist), Spencer Davis, and many other high-profile names. I performed all over the Southwest, from San Francisco to San Diego to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I've done weddings, clubs private parties, recording sessions, drum circles...you name it. I'm also friends with famous drummers you've heard of, and relay stories of the life of a musician that you won't hear in any music school. Read More

Once I started lessons on the upright bass, originally with the intention of only playing jazz, I soon fell in love with classical bass playing, and this became my primary focus during college. My major teachers have included Lynn Fleming, Jeff Weisner of the National Symphony Orchestra, and Laura Ruas of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. In the fall of 2019, at Manhattan School of Music, I will join the bass studio of Jeremy McCoy of the Metropolitan Opera orchestra. Read More

I teach because I love imparting knowledge and making connections in this way, and because I love the fundamental building blocks of musicianship and music theory. I have found that with careful attention to a student's character, the possibilities for learning are boundless. I like to let love guide the process, in the sense that I observe carefully the kinds of sounds that a student is fond of, and attempt to structure their learning in a way that empowers them to make those sounds. The one book I use for my students is Ted Reed's "Progressive Steps to Syncopation For The Modern Drummer". I use this book for my own benefit on a daily basis. Its interpretation and application is limited only by the student's or instructor's imagination. This book is such a great resource for assisting the student in learning basic reading skills. Once the student becomes familiar with recognizing certain rhythmic sequences, It enables them to study and learn from other publications with an increased level of facility. Read More
