In high school, I was apart of a drum line and in 2015, I started drumming in a Rockabilly group in southern Illinois. After a student gains basic familiarity with their instrument I use a metronome (a musician's best and worst friend. I like to use custom lesson plans. I evaluate the student's playing and ask what they want to improve on and/or want to learn. Based off of this, I might use rhythmic study exercises from Ted Reed's "Syncopation" or hand patterns from the book "Stick Control", playing on both a practice pad and the kit. I like to have students play a simple 8th note groove, backbeat on 2 & 4 and incorporate bass drum precision exercises, eventually using different hi hat patterns. Read More

I grew up in Stephens City, VA, where I started playing drum set professionally at age 16. Piano, guitar, and songwriting came soon after, and in 2005 I was awarded the Jazz Studies Scholarship from the University of North Texas to study drum set with the world-renowned educator, Ed Soph.
