I began teaching guitar when I was 17 in my hometown. I am a drummer, but can say I have limited experience teaching drums. In the last few years I've taught a drumming appreciation class as well as a gardening 101 class, both for ages 4-11 as part of Austins Camp Indigo. I've also led nature walks and outdoor games for children for Camp champions in Marble Falls, TX.Inlate 2015I beganwork as an assistant aftercareteacherat an elementary school in Belmont, MA. After seeing an unforgettable performance by the Blue Man Group, I became inspired to start playing the drums at 10 years old. I participated in every school ensemble possible throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school including jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra, jazz combo, concert band, and a blues/rock band outside of school that regularly performed around southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. Since 2008, I have performed live on over 200 occasions around the mid Atlantic and New England regions. In 2014, I graduated from Berklee College of Music summa cum laude with focuses on Music Business and Drum Set Performance.I currently play drums with Vitamin Sun, a progressive/alternative/indie band located in Boston, and GEPH, a progressive/metal/jazz instrumental trio also located in Boston. I began learning piano at the age of three. My dad is a band and chorus teacher and didn't consider it an "optional" skill. I actually learned to read music before english! (I was confused in kindergarten when I found that the alphabet went past G!) Music has been an integral part of my life since then with my elementary and high school years filled with festivals, concerts, auditions and competitions. Read More

Just about two months later, I found myself sitting in with a reggae band while vacationing with my family on the British Virgin Island, Anguilla. I distinctly remember playing No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley with these guys, a tune I had dreamt about playing for as long as I could remember. I was in heaven. Although my facility on the drums was quite limited at the time, I could definitely groove. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons 8 years ago. I only had a couple of students at that time due to my workload in school and other curricular activities, but I felt comfortable in my ability to teach the drums intuitively, thanks to my drum teacher. Also, as I am constantly learning from my teachers, peers and from listening to all kinds of music teaching almost comes as second nature to me. Read More

My teaching style is very simple. We will begin by finding the interests of the student. Then we’ll identify what they like about the instrument and their basic knowledge. Once that is done, we’ll begin experimenting with different generes. And finally, we’ll create a plan that will allow them the chance to grow musically and fundamentally on the drums. This in total, will give myself and the student(s) the chance to see how their minds work as far as being able to give different tastes and feels of rhythm, on their instrument. Read More

I strongly believe that everyone is very different. Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this. Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play. I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard. Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Read More
