Howdy!I'm a musician and instructor with a relatively eclectic background, which, I hope, colors my expressiveness and pedagogy in interesting ways. I'm originally from Idaho, where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance. I came to Colorado five years ago to attend University of Colorado. After working with the faculty there and under the mentorship of Dan Silver, I received my Masters of Music in Music Performance.I play in the Denver/Boulder area and am actively teaching a studio of bright, young clarinetists. I am an upbeat energetic teacher who loves music and loves teaching. I have played saxophone since I was 8 years old, and I am now in my late 50's. I play professionally for many local Denver bands including jazz, blues, pop, contemporary, and have my own music business to play events at weddings, parties etc. I have traveled The Noreweign Cruise ships twice on jazz cruises and had the opportunity to play with the famous bassist Rufus Reed and saxophonist Lou Donaldson. I have also taught private lessons on various instruments and in voice since 2008. I have had my students make All-State Honor Band/All-State Choir, I have had students get college scholarships and many have been accepted into colleges as music majors, I have had students nominated for the All-American Army Marching Band, and have even had students perform solo recitals in public venues. The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. I have found that this is not only the most effective way for me to teach but also the most effective way to connect with students where they are and for them to learn at their own pace while also enjoying the process. I picked up my Aunt's clarinet at 3 years of age -- and never put it back again.  27 years later, I continue to play in many different community bands and orchestras. The only thing I love more than playing music is teaching it. I have taught music in both charter schools and private lessons for the last 10 years and have a patient approach with my students. I believe that music should be fun and go out of my way to help my students find the fun in the lessons we are learning while customizing the lessons to them and their learning style. Read More
