I began teaching privately in 2009 in Austin, TX. There I grew a full studio of saxophonists and clarinetists. In addition to private teaching, I coached several chamber music ensembles at various schools throughout the city. I moved to Colorado to study education at CU Boulder. There I had the privilege of working with such educators as Dr. Margaret Berg, Dr. David Rickels, and Professor Tom Myer. As well, I received my Suzuki certification in flute from Dr. Read More

The ultimate goal is always to have a student who is moving forward, reaching realistic goals, and developing a passion for music. I set goals for the next lesson, the end of the quarter, and long term for my students. These goals are set with the student as well so we are moving together as a team towards their next step. Most of the modern ones are pretty good to get students started, so I'm fine sticking to the director's method of choice and gleaning all the musical gems we can from it. Similarly with piano, there are several great method books out there, and you can learn a lot about piano from any of them. Read More

I taught a little in Idaho but really started teaching in earnest when I moved to Colorado. I've taught individuals from the young beginner to the older person looking to relearn a lost art. I have also adjudicated and taught masterclasses. I've found a passion for working with others that I didn't know that I had. I try to offer my students the tools that I wish I had had when I was just starting out, as well as the tools that will eventually render me obsolete. Read More
