I have had my students make All-State Honor Band/All-State Choir, I have had students get college scholarships and many have been accepted into colleges as music majors, I have had students nominated for the All-American Army Marching Band, and have even had students perform solo recitals in public venues. My lessons are structured with attention paid to the fundamentals of each instrument and the fundamentals of music. I have learned that when a student practices a mistake over and over it remains a mistake. I immediately slow the student down and concentrate on just a measure or even two notes to accomplish correct rhythm, fingerings, articulations and phrasing.   This depends on the student.  I am an easy going teacher.  I don't believe in applying pressure.  It is my job to get to know the student and find positive ways to help them develop their musical skills. I'm actually very flexible with the methods or books for all of the instruments I teach. Generally, for the band instruments, the director picks the method book. Most of the modern ones are pretty good to get students started, so I'm fine sticking to the director's method of choice and gleaning all the musical gems we can from it.
