I taught a little in Idaho but really started teaching in earnest when I moved to Colorado. I've taught individuals from the young beginner to the older person looking to relearn a lost art. I have also adjudicated and taught masterclasses. I've found a passion for working with others that I didn't know that I had. When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

The Rubank Method offers some solos, but in addition, for the High School student I teach them the Weber Concertino, Mozart Concerto- first movement, Brahms Second Sonata for the advanced High School and College student. Lesson plans for the advanced High School student include scales, major and minor, Rose Etudes and solos. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction.
