I began teaching voice as a school project when I was 14 years old and realized that I I loved it! From then on, I always kept my hand in teaching throughout my high school and college years. Everyone has heard horror stories of music lessons that they were forced to take with teachers who forced students to play music they were not interested in. I whole heartily believe that this is the fastest way to severe a student's relationship with creating music. The musical education process should be one that the student enjoys and wants to nurture to become the best musician they can! Lessons are geared to the individual student. I try to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere while providing a professional experience for the students. Theory is emphasized as well as technique for both the piano and voice student. Most voice students will get a basic knowledge of music reading skills while piano students tend to have a bit more in depth studies. Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. Nothing is more thrilling to me and sometimes emotional, than to see one of my students progress to the point of loving music as much as I do, and to go on and spread the good to all those who will listen.
