I am an experienced and patient teacher, passionate about the versatile beauty of music and all of the ways it benefits music learners. I have been a music maker for just over 20 years, with piano as my first instrument. I began playing the viola in middle school and quickly progressed into advanced orchestras both at school and throughout the city. Though I initially intended to major in music education, once at the University of Minnesota I found myself incredibly drawn to opera. Read More

Everyone has heard horror stories of music lessons that they were forced to take with teachers who forced students to play music they were not interested in. I whole heartily believe that this is the fastest way to severe a student's relationship with creating music. The musical education process should be one that the student enjoys and wants to nurture to become the best musician they can! Depending on the level of the student and the instrument, I begin with fundamentals such as scales and note names, to foster a better musical understanding, while simultaneously including music that the student can enjoy that ties in with the fundamentals we are currently working on. I'm a passionate instructor that focuses on each individual's goals needed to further their love for music or to be audition ready at all times. I graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Music performance, emphasis in voice and have continued my career with music. I believe my students will learn at their highest potential by personalizing each lesson around what they need. For example: if a student is interested in auditioning for College or specific ensembles or groups, I will incorporate the audition requirements into the lesson so they feel adequately prepared when they walk into their audition. I began teaching voice as a school project when I was 14 years old and realized that I I loved it! From then on, I always kept my hand in teaching throughout my high school and college years. I started teaching full time, at which point I added piano and speaking to my repertoire. I have experience as a performing singer, session musician and actor and I I love helping my students get the most out their lessons, whether they simply want to learn their instrument to the best of their ability, or learn more about writing music and the industry. Practice Practice Practice! and wanting to practice. Probably the most important thing in music at first. The biggest problem is method in itself. There is not just one way to teach everyone. Music is a lifelong study. It never ends. So learning should be the encouragement of accomplishment. Which has to involve learning some theory but focus on mechanical and listening skills as well. Whether we practice the same drum beat over and over or strumming the same chords its here that we find what we call music. Read More

Vocal technique, including breath support, pitch, range, tone, and style are important for every singer. However, each student is not the same, and it is important to help a student find their natural voice and work from there. A huge part of becoming a better singer has to do with building confidence. Confidence comes from having little successes and getting in touch with one's own natural sound. Then wonderful new sounds and feelings can be built from there. Read More
