All of that being said, I utilize lesson time as efficiently as possible to give students the tools they need to progress in their own solo practice. Students will be presented with all the necessary skills in order to properly perform on the clarinet: breathing, posture, hand and finger position, embouchure, tone production, articulation, technique, rhythmical precision, transposition, and sight-reading. A wide selection of clarinet literature will be presented: classical, romantic and contemporary eras (baroque transcriptions as needed). After those first two books I move them into the Rubank Intermediate Series of books. For saxophonist, and even some clarinetist that would like to learn some jazz I use the Lennie Niehaus Jazz Conception Series. I believe music is much more than something that is taught; it is its own language. Though methods of composition vary, it evokes strong emotions in listeners across the world. Music has so much more to teach us than just how to read and play the notes. It can actually help build individuality. I will teach students more than just how to play instruments and sing. I teach a combination of Rote and verbal, conveying my ideas while playing as an example. I realized my passion for music when I was teaching forty clarinetists during a band camp. They caught on to my personality and knew I wanted the best for them. This ultimately drove them to be better musicians. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book.
