I'm a passionate clarinetist and conductor who strongly believes in the power to change the world. As a former Navy musician, I traveled throughout Southeast Asia, performing for everything and everyone--from the general public to exclusive VIP events. My parents had always wondered if buying my clarinet in 5th grade was a good investment--and I can say without a doubt that it was. I understand what music can do--and why music education is so important. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my College days when I tutored students while a student at Berklee. I have been performing private lessons for the past twenty years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the most important key points, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I teach both Classical and modern jazz styles and techniques and the combing of the two can go a long way to help the students enjoy playing more. Read More

I have the goal of helping students look at music the way I do: with passion and inspiration. I encourage students to open their minds and set goals for themselves. For example, I would ask them the question, "By playing music, what do you want to accomplish?" I have asked this question to myself many times throughout my life thus far, and it has worked because I have accomplished so much. Read More

While all of my students study the same fundamental musical principles, I believe that every lesson should be as unique as every person. That's why I always create new, customized lesson plans and provide individualized materials for all of my students. In my experience, this approach is most effective at increasing the student's musical ability—and it's a lot more fun! Rather than just going cover to cover through a method book, we'll keep things interesting and fresh by playing music games (especially with younger students), composing our own music, listening to new artists, and working on pieces that are requested by the student. My focus with each student is to tune into them in a way that I can then assess their physical, mental and emotional abilities. I ask each student what they want to learn with their instrument. If they do not know, we then start with the basics to establish a solid foundation in music with their instrument. Along the way, I ask the student what kind of music they like. Read More

I began playing the clarinet in 5th grade and immediately fell in love with the instrument. After playing throughout middle and high school, I went on to earn my Bachelors of Music degree in clarinet performance from Temple University, followed by a Master of Music in clarinet performance and a Master of Arts in musicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I had the pleasure and good fortune to study with noted clarinetists and instructors Anthony Gigliotti, Ronald Reuben, and Rosario Mazzeo, from whom I learned not only the intricacies and complexities of my instrument, but also how to be an effective and compassionate teacher. My goal as a teacher is to see my students grow not only in skill, but in their love for music. With this in mind, I make a special effort not to overwhelm my students. I know that every person has a different set of talents and strengths, so I design my curriculum to fit each students' needs. As a whole, the idea behind my teaching is to create a challenge without creating stress because at the end of the day, happy students produce great music! Read More
