I use quite a variety of methods that my students benefit from. Some are school based and others are arrangement I write and invent. Most of my writings are a result of fitting the needs of the student and always works. The key to any teacher would be to insure and develop a program of study that will benefit him or her greatly. Early in my career,I used the Jamie Ambersold Methology that helped the player use the written music in a band setting music minus their instrument. Many band method books are good as well but there are numerous studies out there to be used. Solo music is given as the music is written and many stores have this available. The music should be fun and yet challenging at the same time to be practiced on a daily basis. This will boost the interest level greatly. There are many techniques that are used to better to get across subject content.Improvisation plays a big part in instructional knowledge. Development of modes and scales bring the improvisation. Also auditory development can be taught by teaching phrasing and scale tones. In my development as a teacher and music professional, sets had to be taken to obtain all the necessary material to be a professional teacher and musician.
I have recently moved to the beautiful state of Florida, and love it here! New Mexico was my home prior to moving here. I have performed in many ensembles, and do solo recitals annually. My performance experience includes Symphony Orchestras, Pit Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Chamber Music, Polka Band, Latin Band, Big Band, and I have been a guest soloist on several occasions. In addition to music, I enjoy photography. The YouTube video on this profile puts my two passions together....my music, and my photos.
For beginner students I find out their learning style before I assign them a method book. The method book I choose will depend on their learning style. As they progress I incorporate music that they are familar with and songs that they would like to play. For Intermediates and Advanced students I plan my lessons according to their interests and what they would like to achieve from taking lessons. I aim to please. If the student is happy I am happy too.
I create custom lesson plans, goals, and objectives based on the individual student's needs and interests. Strong fundamentals are essential to readily achieve musical success, therefore, I begin with the essentials of posture, breathing, sticking/articulation, and best practice habits. If a student already has a method book or repertoire with which he or she is learning, I am happy to continue with current music, or I have many method books and resources to recommend. I also often write and arrange music for my students. I love to help students discover their own musical passion and provide appropriate arrangements to motivate and inspire growth!

Many adult students choose to take the clarinet, even with no previous experience. Clarinet can be a wonderful instrument to learn for the first time and a lot of progress can be made as long as the student is practicing! Clarinet can be a very satisfying instrument to learn as an adult because of the rich sound and various genres in which it is used.
Children generally begin to learn the clarinet at age 7 or 8. We suggest this age because the student needs to be able to hold the instrument correctly and support its weight. More importantly, students fingers need to be the right size to play instrument, and the child needs to have enough lung capacity to support the sound of this instrument.
There are usually two types of clarinets available, wood and plastic. Plastic clarinets are less expensive, but a wood clarinet is certain to be more durable and has a longer lifespan as a result. A wood clarinet will also produce a warmer and more professional sound. We suggest visiting your local music store and speaking to the professionals there to find out which instrument would best suit the needs of your student and your current budget. Once you are working with a clarinet teacher in Musika's network, the teacher can also provide suggestions as to the best clarinet models or the best stores to get your instrument locally. Every clarinet should come with 5 basic parts: the bell, the lower joint, the upper joint, and the barrel. A mouthpiece will need to be purchased as well. Make sure to inspect the instrument and be sure it includes these things.
Our teachers create a custom lesson plan for each student studying clarinet. Clarinet lessons are useful for many students taking band or woodwinds during school. They will focus on how to prepare the instrument for playing, how to hold the clarinet, how to read music, and common musical styles which use the clarinet.

Angela is a phenomenal teacher. She is full of charisma and is a joy to work with. Most of my experience with her has been focused on working in the Alexander Technique and she seems very knowledgeable in this study. I would highly recommend her to any prospective student. I have seen myself improve dramatically in a few short weeks with her guidance (and much practice of course!)

Steve is an excellent instructor. My son has really connected with him and he is learning the guitar quickly. Steve is patient and never rushes through a lesson in order to make it fit within the session time limit. In addition, before he leaves, he writes notes and instructions for my son to follow. By the next lesson, my son is confident in what Steve has taught him. Most importantly, Steve builds my son's confidence in his own own ability and progress after each lesson.

“Lynn is my music hero! She can listen to any song and write down the chords. She will adjust to make it easier or harder whatever your abilities. I have a busy schedule and often don't have time to practice between lessons and she is cool with that. She also will adjust lesson times when she is able which fits my hectic schedule. I'm glad my first guitar teacher "fired" me ....that allowed me to meet Lynn.” - Carol A., M.D., Aug 2015

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Thanks Lilly!

"I've been taking lessons with Richard for just a little over six months now and all I can say is that he is an amazing instructor. He hasn't followed a set one size fits all script in his lessons but has instead worked with my musical interests and at my pace in a way that is truly valuable. He has also kept things fun, interesting, and engaging even at times when I've felt overwhelmed and discouraged. This is an instructor that is truly adaptable to his students and will make sure that they get the most out of their lessons. I would definitely recommend him to anybody that truly wants to unlock their musical potential."

Rahsaan is an extremely talented player who relates really well with my teenagers. He has them both interested in learning. Given Rahsaan's expertise, it's clear that even though they are beginners now, they can learn from him for a long time to come. He's a real nice laid-back guy and both the boys really enjoy their time with him. I've been very impressed and pleased with the experience.

After moving from NY and parting from our amazing piano instructor, we thought we couldn't find a piano teacher close to what we knew. We are happy to say Musika matched us up with someone professional and friendly who enjoys teaching younger students. Thank you! We definitely recommend Kuan as a piano instructor :)

Pavel is doing a great job with my 6 year old son. Pavel is doing a great job helping my son focus on technique and rhythm, which is something previous instructors weren't so successful with. Pavel is organized / structured / systematic, which is what my son needs now, but I hope he relaxes a bit as the lessons continue so that more "joy" comes through.

After signing up for lessons with David L. I knew I made the right choice. Just after a couple of weeks I didn't see him as a teacher but as a best friend. There was always a relaxed atmosphere during the lessons. He was very easy to talk to and he really listen to you. If I ever had a question he would answer. He tailors to what ever you want to do in that lesson. David L. is a great teacher and a friend. I totally recommend him for anyone
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
