Once these become ingrained in the student's mind, I will introduce various excerpts based on their skill level, eventually working our way into solo repertoire. My teaching experience started when I was in high school I assisted the middle school band director and taught some private trumpet lessons. During my time at Pensacola Christian College, I learned how to teach lessons in brass, woodwind, percussion, and strings. Part of the requirements included student teaching where I taught third grade theory, high school band, private trumpet, and private clarinet lessons. In the first lessons, I explain the the beginner students the basic functionality of the instruments, the proper way to hold the instruments, how to produce a clear sound from the instruments and a Major scale ascending and descending, the one from which the first lessons or the next lessons is written. With many years experience and training, I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. My students are successful because lessons are challenging but fun, positive and enjoyable. I believe in positive reinforcement, setting goals with the student, regular feedback and encouragement, and helping the student reach their potential. I have worked with young beginners and have studied the different needs of adult beginners.
