In the past, I have used several different band methods and generally like to first use the book that the students' school district is using. As the student becomes more accomplished, I supplement with method books and solo literature from the repertoire of the individual instrument. For the younger student, additionally, I like to work with improvising and making up his/her own songs, so that they enjoy and develop a sense of accomplishment in composing their own music. During the summer of 2019, I was honored to be an instructor at the Lenoir-Rhyne Youth Summer Music Camp, where I taught musicianship/theory and woodwinds. I currently student teach for partial fulfillment for my Master's degree at Hickory High School (Hickory, NC). I love being able to send students on their way for the day knowing that they put their best foot forward. Even if they did not come to a lesson prepared, being able to see growth in the small amount of time I'm with them is enough for me.
