As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. I find that music of any genre is much easier to study if you have an understanding of the framework of what you practice. No matter what age, any starting clarinetist needs to understand the fundamentals of the clarinet. Once these fundamentals are acquired, we move on to the basics of reading music and playing the clarinet such as learning the circle of fourths and practicing pieces of music that is from a certain major scale.
