As a clarinet instructor, I always strive for bringing a wide variety of different artistic, technical and clarinet related aspects into my teachings. I find it crucial to be able to identify a certain students strengths or weaknesses. When us, teachers, do that, we are not only helping an individual student, we also expand our capacity as artists; we learn new ways to fix certain problems in ones playing. I believe that by staying open-minded with the ways we approach our teaching styles, we constantly learn how to become better, more flexible and always innovative when passing our knowledge to the students. My first steps into teaching were as a camp counselor at a local music summer camp in Shaker Heights from 2008-2012. During that time I had a few students who were just beginning to play saxophone and clarinet. Those experiences coupled with phenomenal teachers throughout high school inspired me to pursue a bachelor's degree in Music Education at Ithaca College. During my collegiate years I continued honing my abilities and knowledge of all the instruments I play while also studying music theory, conducting, and composition along with researching pedagogical approaches. I love teaching because I believe most, if not all, people love music and can learn to love making music. I want it to be fun for them, to keep them interested. I believe that a set of expectations on the student is required to keep them motivated, but I am never upset or disappointed if they don't practice enough. I think keeping them involved in music is the most important part, and I know that many students will not pursue a full time career in music, but music is valuable to them in so many ways. Read More

I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument.  Read More

I have been teaching since I was in Highschool, specifically tutoring younger kids while I was a senior. From there, I helped with sectionals while I was at Baldwin Wallace University. When I started at the University of Akron, I accepted a full Clarinet assistant ship, teaching private lessons to Undergraduate Clarinetists and coaching chamber music. Nothing brings me more joy to see my students learning something knew, struggling to learn a new concept and finally understanding it (i.e.- learning the proper way to breathe). Read More

I started teaching private lessons in 1990 and continued through my college years and as I raised my two sons. I was thrilled to move to Maple Heights where I can have a room dedicated as a music studio. I started the band program at my k-8 school in 2000 and currently teach band to high school students.
