I have had the pleasure of teaching music and private lessons to elementary and primary aged children for 10 years. I have also worked with high school and middle school band students in preparation for festivals and other countywide auditions as well as college auditions. More specifically, I have been teaching in-home private bassoon and clarinet lessons in the Washington metro area for four years. Working one-on-one with students of all ages affords me the opportunity to get to know my students and to become even more invested in their success. Read More

For beginning students, I find that the simpler the methods, the better. Essential Elements is a great series for beginners, and is a good way to teach basic music theory and musical ideas. As students progress, I like to introduce solo repertoire and books that are more specific to the instrument that they are learning. I also like to find out what music the student enjoys listening to, or has a desire to play, and start to add songs in that style to their list of practice pieces. Read More

Currently I am an Elementary General/Vocal Music Teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools. I am a 2012 York College of Pennsylvania Music Education graduate, and my primary focus was on the alto saxophone. I have performed in various ensembles during my time at York, from Jazz to Wind Symphony and even the YCP / Community Orchestra. I performed in multiple Student Recitals while at York, as well as Junior and Senior Recitals to show case my growth and hard work while representing different areas throughout music history. My teaching style begins with creating a positive environment for the student to keep them encouraged and wanting to continue their study. I try to keep the students engaged by finding a balance of what the students want to work on, as well as what I want them to be working on. I understand that every student learns differently, and I won't teach every student the same way. I will give the students goals to reach every week, so they can see the progress themselves, and I always ensure to acknowledge when a student has succeeded with something that was assigned to them. The first chance I met music was based on my parents’ view that it can build good a character for me. When the first time my mother asked which instrument I wanted to learn, I chose clarinet without hesitation, facing a dazzling array of beautiful musical instruments. From that time, I was deeply attracted by the exquisite appearance and the beautiful sound it produced. I hold my bachelor's degree from Xi'an Conservatory of music in 2016 and performance diploma from Michigan State University in 2018. Read More

As an educator, it is important for me to not only see my students learn and become better musicians, but thrive and have a good time doing so. For a student to learn music, they have to not only want to learn the instrument, but be inspired. Because of this, I will be lenient with the amount of work and the amount of practice required, as to be flexible with the students schedule and choices. Read More

I believe it is imperative to create a positive, musical learning environment for my students and cultivate their love for music. My lessons are individualized and tailored to meet the individual student's musical goals, level and learning style. I provide each student with a practice sheet to monitor their progress. Different students have different skill levels and different needs. Therefore, I assign each student a realistic, attainable goal for each lesson. Read More
