I am currently a Senior Music Education Major at Eastern Michigan University. I am a saxophonist in the EMU Wind Symphony, EMU Big Band, EMU Saxophone Ensemble, EMU Jazz Saxophone Sextet, Stone Tower Saxophone Quartet, Krangerson Duo, REMIX, and Funkwagon. Putting visualizations to certain sections of music to make the student more musical, or making a game out of the harder more technical sections is how to keep students interested longer. To start, I like to have students use the Beginner Rubank Method Book (the blue book) and work through this to get the basics down. After this, I like to choose some supplemental solo pieces that aren't in this book to help the students grasp the concepts that they have been working on, outside of what is shown in the book. My teaching style is whatever fits best with the student. I am a high energy, silly, out of the box kind of teacher. I have no shame doing a silly dance to get my students engaged and moving!
