My musical involvements at school are focused in my performances with the CSUF Wind Symphony and the CSUF Symphony Orchestra, where I served as the principal clarinet for our last concert season. While I've been in college ,I've been fortunate to play in music festivals in both the US (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival) and Canada (Domaine Forget) and toured with the CSU Fullerton Wind Symphony in Portugal and China. I certainly teach everyone to read music if they don't already know how, but I really like to help people hear the music they want to make. This is done through listening assignments, playing with my students during lessons, some music memorization, and singing. By letting students practice how to improvise, students will learn not only the instrument itself, but also start to build a concept of ear-training, as well as music theory. To me, the music comes first than the music theory, which is why music theory always serves people's ear. I would have students learn how to play and hear chords, create a musical vocabulary and enjoy themselves. So I did. I also engaged with a Masters program at Hunter which I enjoyed and definitely improved my skills as a teacher in the Fall of 2009. Ultimately, I did not stay in that program because I was already teaching so much in a so many different settings.
