Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I don't have a singular method because every student is different. At the beginning of my lessons with a new student we will begin getting to know each other. Then we try different things. Some students are naturals at imitating what they hear, so we play to those strengths. Other students are more comfortable with structure and math, so we take that route instead. I am a passionate classical cellist and teacher who just graduated from the Eastman School of Music with my Bachelors in Cello Performance, where I studied with David Ying. Next fall, I will begin graduate studies at the New England Conservatory in the studio of Paul Katz. My number one goal is to teach students how to teach themselves-- knowing HOW to practice is the best way to improve! Part of my lessons involve technical work so that my students can advance into healthy cellists. Another part of my lessons is developing their musical and creative side-- I ask questions about what a piece feels like, what images, colors, emotions they are thinking of. Usually in my lessons I like to hear the student play something from start to finish just so I can listen and take in what exactly a student's strengths and weaknesses are. Encouraging strengths, and praising accomplishments, is a great way to help a student to progress. I try not to dwell on mistakes or weaknesses but try to demonstrate or push the student in the right direction. Read More

For beginner students, I use the Essential Elements for strings (books 1 and 2). In conjunction with these books, I select a repertoire that corresponds with their current abilities, and work my way up from there. For adults and more advanced students, I use various technical studies such as Sevcik, Kreutzer, and Rode, and standard Rep using the International editions.
