I started teaching regularly in college. For 7 years, I have always had some semblance of students whether they be private or part of an afterschool program. I like working closely with each students, getting each of them to branch out and challenge themselves. I believe in a goal-oriented mindset; sometimes I like to help students by creating practice guidelines for them to follow in between lessons. I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! Currently, I am working on the last of my classwork before student teaching full time. I hope to graduate in May 2024 with a B.M. in Music Education and my NYSED pK-12 certification. At Bennington College I majored in music and joined the Vermont State Symphony! I was playing cello every chance I could. Following my college graduation, I spent the year in Paris, studying cello and composition. Upon my return to NYC I launched my own self-styled performing and teaching career. I earned my Master of Arts Degree in Cello Performance at Brooklyn College. All the while, I was performing in various groups such as a 5 woman chamber ensemble called Mother Chord, and, as mentioned above, with the mandolin-English Concertina-cello trio called Calle Strada Strasse and with the musician that took me furthest around the world-Suni Paz, an Argentine singer/songwriter with whom I played from 1976 to 1997, touring Germany, Mexico, and throughout the U.S. Read More

For very beginning students, I usually start with the Suzuki Method Books and All For Strings Comprehensive String Method Books. I usually encourage my students to read music, but for the youngest students I start by playing with them and having them copy me. Once they are ready, I start teaching them basic music theory that will help them read music. For intermediate to advanced players I institute a routine of practicing scales and etudes as well as a solo piece that is appropriate for their ability level. Read More
