I gravitate towards the Essential Elements for Strings books for beginner students because the books so effortlessly combine the first steps of cello playing with basic concepts of music theory and history. I then use a combination of cello duets, etudes (like Dotzauer and S.Lee), and method books (Feuillard) for technical studies. I always incorporate traditional music for the cello (like Bach Cello Suites, famous cello concertos), but work with students on whatever music they enjoy. Read More

My teaching began in senior year of my high school. I taught at Memorial High School Orchestra, where I lead cello sectionals, taught one-on-one lessons, and coached chamber ensembles. In addition, I received training in introductory conducting. I believe that with my lessons, I have a balance between having fun and actually improving. Practice is absolutely mandatory to further improve one's abilities, and I expect students to try their best. Read More

My two rules of teaching are to be encouraging and be engaging. I don't want students dragging their feet as they walk to their lesson. I want them sprinting up the stairs and ringing my bell several times, because they are so excited to get started! I am a cellist that enjoys a diverse career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and pedagogue. As a chamber musician, I have performed across the United States and internationally. I enjoy watching my students grow and watching them develop their own interests and personal tastes. I open the door for my students with a strong technical instruction, and encourage them to walk through that "door" and develop their musical expression and curiosity. Through hard work, patience, and curiosity, we can form a connection that will help us both grow in innumerable ways.
