For very beginning students, I usually start with the Suzuki Method Books and All For Strings Comprehensive String Method Books. I usually encourage my students to read music, but for the youngest students I start by playing with them and having them copy me. Once they are ready, I start teaching them basic music theory that will help them read music. I'm receiving my Doctoral of Musical Arts Degree from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in this coming May 2020. I have also spent my summers teaching at such music festivals as Luzerne Music Center, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and NYSSSA School of Orchestral Studies. My duties included teaching students aged 9-19 private lessons, coaching up to three chamber ensembles daily, conducting orchestral sectionals, and rehearsing from within the orchestra. For beginning students who are children, for the first lesson i usually ask them to play whatever they have in hand then base on the standard to assign basic practice from the Suzuki cello books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
