I then ask them to perform anything of their choice to assess their ability level (if applicable). After that, I tell them what immediately needs to be addressed and how this will work with their longterm goal. For beginning students, I typically start with the Suzuki method books, because I think they lend themselves well to both kids and parents who are practicing with them. These books also come with accompaniment CDs which I find very important to learning. For adults, I like to have a conversation about what the student's goals are and what they are interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. For all, I want lessons to be engaging and fun, but to make real progress both in solo playing and collaboration. Read More

I have also enjoyed working in the Memphis (Tennessee) City Schools whenever I am in my hometown, as well as working in the Bayonne, NJ and other schools to teach in classrooms whenever possible. As a private instructor, I believe that it's important for a child to think of their lessons as a special time that is set aside for their music/cello and I always traveled to my own teacher's studio and that was our cello place for lessons, so I think it is important for my students/parents to travel to my studio as well.
