I have been playing cello for 20 years, after starting when I was 10. I was admitted to Jacksonville University at the age of 16 on a full scholarship, and there I pursued a double major in Music Theory Composition, and Cello Performance. I did my graduate work at Denver University, where I studied a variety of non-western musics, including Balinese gamelan, Ghanaian drumming, and Tuvan traditional music. For beginning learners, I attach great importance to the sitting position and ear training, so paying attention to intonation and awareness of sitting position when playing the cello is my primary consideration. For intermediate students who study for more than one year, I will pay more attention to left-handed skills and students' mastery of the bowing. For advanced players, I will focus more on musical interpretation and comprehensive techniques. Throughout school and up until I graduated from college, I taught private cello lessons during the summers. I have been a classroom teacher (elementary, middle, and high school, in addition to teaching adults computer programming) for the past twelve years. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all ages and helping them meet their goals.
