I teach anyone who shares the passion for cello (or violin, or chamber music). I tend to attract many adults who always wanted to play the cello, but postponed it, and finally decided its now or never. Similarly, I teach a number of adults who played through adolescence, but quit, and now want to return to playing. Ive been teaching since I was a teen-ager, and fortunately, multiple decades later, Im still cherishing every student, every moment of music making. Read More

For beginning students, i'll typically start with Suzuki books. It's important for students to learn the left and right hand separately before putting everything together. Once a student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I'll introduce some simpler solo repertoire appropriate for his or her skill level. For advanced, I'll be happy to talk about more advanced musical techniques and theories. I play the piano as well, and I will be happy to accompany my students playing repertoire that needs an accompanist. Read More

Hi there! I am a live-long musician. I consider myself a student as well as a teacher. I believe that music has the power to create powerful community bonds and connections. My lessons are tailored to this philosophy, exploring the music that really moves my students and imparts the ability to actively participate in musical communities as well as communities that transcend music. It's all about unleashing the creative joy inside of us and expressing ourselves through music. Read More

I always believed I'd be in an orchestra one day, but when I ended up at the University of Michigan for my undergraduate degree and then Northwestern for my Master's, my interests began to change and I began to realize that I am not truly a section player, but more of a soloist. After a brief stint in LA, I made the move to NYC to join The Inventions Trio with my bandmates and jazz heroes, Marvin Stamm and Bill Mays, and to start subbing in the hit Broadway musical, Spring Awakening...and the rest is history!! The most rewarding thing as a teacher is passing on my love of music to my students. Music is one of the most important things in my life and has opened me up to the world. Because of music I have met people from all walks of life and that has helped me to become a more loving and compassionate person. Lessons should be a safe, fun and encouraging space for students to grow not only as musicians but as people. Read More

As a teacher, I like to instill as much passion for music as I possible can. I enjoy seeing students develop their love of music as well as their ability to play their specific instrument. Therefore I like to make lessons as fun as possible but also grounded in a seriousness about music and a respect for the process of music making. I think that students advance fastest when they gain a curiosity for their instrument as well as the music that that play on it. Read More

I have seen how music education helps my students become great thinkers, community leaders and artists themselves. As a teacher, I strive to engage students by nurturing their passion and curiosity for the arts and learning as a whole. It is my goal to help my students take what they learn through music and apply those skills to other areas in their lives, much as many of my mentors have done with me. Read More
