My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Mostly I'd refer to the methods section. Though here I will discuss the dragon that is practice. It's difficult. Even I don't practice as much as I'd like and I'd wager few truly do, but it is consistency that makes the difference. I often say that music has more in common with a physical activity than an intellectual one. What I mean is, you can learn a fact and know it. Read More

I believe that each person has a unique set of skills and characteristics through which he or she acquires knowledge, maintains and improves the acquired knowledge, and uses it to his or her benefit. Therefore, although I do have a system that I follow, I attend to the specific strong and weak points of each student. My goal is to be present in each and every lesson and to focus on each student's current level with the understanding that only through direct and personal guidance could my students improve and thrive. For beginning students, i'll typically start with Suzuki books. It's important for students to learn the left and right hand separately before putting everything together. Once a student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I'll introduce some simpler solo repertoire appropriate for his or her skill level. For advanced, I'll be happy to talk about more advanced musical techniques and theories. I play the piano as well, and I will be happy to accompany my students playing repertoire that needs an accompanist. Read More

I have been playing the cello for forty years and teaching for twenty. I love helping students of all ages realize their goals of playing and performing cello music. Although I do not have an academic background in music, I have studied privately with teachers who have been members of the New York Philharmonic and Juilliard faculty. In addition to playing and performing chamber music for the past thirty years in local venues, I am also a co-founder of the American Chamber Orchestra, a community orchestra that has performed for twenty seasons and toured Europe with performances in many countries.
