Usually in my lessons I like to hear the student play something from start to finish just so I can listen and take in what exactly a student's strengths and weaknesses are. Encouraging strengths, and praising accomplishments, is a great way to help a student to progress. I have been teaching privately since 1989, teaching piano and bass at 15 years old. Thirty years later I have become a multi-instrumentalist playing Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Electric Bass, Latin Baby Bass, guitar, piano, synthesizer, keyboard and voice. I have a vast knowledge of classical and modern works and am comfortable transcribing modern compositions for my students. My dancers range from young children, to adult and senior beginners. I always believed I'd be in an orchestra one day, but when I ended up at the University of Michigan for my undergraduate degree and then Northwestern for my Master's, my interests began to change and I began to realize that I am not truly a section player, but more of a soloist. After a brief stint in LA, I made the move to NYC to join The Inventions Trio with my bandmates and jazz heroes, Marvin Stamm and Bill Mays, and to start subbing in the hit Broadway musical, Spring Awakening...and the rest is history!! I'm a dedicated cellist and guitarist who really enjoys working with people of all ages and ability levels. I graduated with a BA in cello performance from Connecticut College and went on to study at Virginia Tech. I have played in amateur orchestras as well as in chamber ensembles. I also have performance experience on guitar in a variety of settings. I am a huge fan of live music and believe that the two best ways to carry on the tradition of music is through performance as well as one on one and classroom teaching. Read More
