I began playing cello in elementary school, and not soon after began participating in Youth Orchestras both in New Jersey and in New York. After attending several music festivals over the summer, I took an interest in music as a career. I have also enjoyed working in the Memphis (Tennessee) City Schools whenever I am in my hometown, as well as working in the Bayonne, NJ and other schools to teach in classrooms whenever possible. As a private instructor, I believe that it's important for a child to think of their lessons as a special time that is set aside for their music/cello and I always traveled to my own teacher's studio and that was our cello place for lessons, so I think it is important for my students/parents to travel to my studio as well. My work with the DCYOP, an El-Sistema inspired program, involves teaching the basics of playing the violin, viola, cello and music theory, adjudicating students’ progress, leading sectionals and full rehearsals in various DC schools, some from the most underserved communities. Highlights are having all the different schools come together for a large performance at the Kennedy Center and the students performances with Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and Esperanza Spalding. I’ve also facilitated many youth orchestra performances and summer camps as string teaching artist in DC and Maryland showcasing that I can motivate the students to a high quality performance regardless of the amount of time. For adolescent beginner piano students I recommend 'John Thompson's Earliest Piano Course'. In this series Books I-III build a strong base upon which a student can specialize in different genre and styles graduating from book III. For adult students beginning I would suggest John Thompon's Adult (or Modern) Piano Course. The pacing of this book is far more accelerated and more in keeping with an adult pace to work with.
