I grew up as a cellist in El Sistema, a huge educational system in Venezuela thats famous for its innovative process and for creating among other great musicians, Gustavo Dudamel and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra. Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory and history while focusing on improving their technical facility on the cello. Students also work towards building their comfort with the instrument by practicing increasingly complex exercises and repertoire. That is my #1 priority. I emphasize improvisation the most for all my students so they are able to express themselves freely on their instrument! From my experience, most of my students, if not all, practice diligently and consistently because they want to! Not because they are forced to, but because they love to. I aim to tailor my lesson plans to each students unique goals. The methods I use differ based on each persons aspirations and learning habits. I believe that the cello can be a beneficial addition to anyones life, whether it is being played for recreation/therapy, to explore and enjoy great music, or to challenge oneself and build discipline through rigorous practice.
