I want them sprinting up the stairs and ringing my bell several times, because they are so excited to get started! My main foundations for my teaching are rooted in goal setting, collaboration, and engaging music learning. At the beginning of every semester, I like to evaluate the goals from the previous semester, talk about what progress has been made, and what the future goals are. I personally feel that many times students quit because they do not enjoy practicing at home week after week, so for me, collaboration either with students from school, other students in the studio, or in local music schools or orchestras is a must. I enjoy watching my students grow and watching them develop their own interests and personal tastes. I open the door for my students with a strong technical instruction, and encourage them to walk through that "door" and develop their musical expression and curiosity. Through hard work, patience, and curiosity, we can form a connection that will help us both grow in innumerable ways. I aim to tailor my lesson plans to each students unique goals. The methods I use differ based on each persons aspirations and learning habits. I believe that the cello can be a beneficial addition to anyones life, whether it is being played for recreation/therapy, to explore and enjoy great music, or to challenge oneself and build discipline through rigorous practice. I like to use the first few Suzuki and Schroeder books for complete beginners to introduce basic bowing and intonation concepts while building confidence with the cello. Read More
