I am a professional musician and educator in New York City, I love talking about anything related to music, I am constantly challenging myself to learn new things about music and the greatest process to learn more about music is to share it with others. I've arguably learned more from my students over the years than they have from me. I went to Berklee College of Music on a full-ride scholarship, I graduated in 2013 with an honors diploma in music education and performance from the Global Jazz Institute. Read More

My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. Something to get them really excited about learning and practicing, and songs that they recognize and can show others. Read More

I guess my point is, I can play any instrument and if I had more time in the world, I could practice more. I took all of the music classes in my college and I passed with flying colors (except brown because he has a broken wing so he can't fly that much, but other colors flew high). I even took Opera and passed that with an A. I love all kinds of music and I am willing to teach any kind of music to my students. Read More

For younger beginners I tend to use Hal Leonard's Guitar Method series to build a foundation of basic knowledge and fundamental techniques. From there I tend to focus on a custom lesson plan entailing a combination of music/exercises I believe the student will benefit from and enjoy coupled with whatever the student them self wishes to learn whether it's a genre of music, a specific song or something else. I like to let a student learn at his/her own pace, as long as they are focused and putting in the effort. If somebody is a complete beginner, we'll likely begin by learning about basic elements of music (pitch, rhythm) as well as basics of the instrument (tuning, right hand/left hand placement and technique). If the student has some experience with the instrument already, we can talk about what music they are interested in and what they hope to gain from taking lessons. Read More

In the first lessons with beginning students I always try to focus in having a good time doing music and not geting frustrated quickly. Music is not an esay thing when we start to learning it and for sure that students are going to have difficulties at the beginning. But, if they are conected with the enjoyment, they are going to overcome obstacles more easily. For advanced students, I divide the lesson in two parts: technique on the instrument and repertorire. For students who are children I like to start to start learning rhythms through common children’s songs to show how easy music can be. Depending on the instrument, one of the many Hal Leonard books is always a good option. If they are a little older, I will use music that they like to teach how music theory and fundamental skills makes up all the musi they enjoy. We will often learn songs that speak to them and I will use their favorite genres to curate new songs to teach and show them new material and how it relates to their instrument. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
