I have found the last few years very rewarding as students become musicians. Since my first student I taught in 2004, through the days I taught at a music school, up right on to the present moment, I love passing the music onward as it was passed to me. Being a multi generational musician, it's important to me to teach this great artform and pass it down through generations. I also like to let my students know that "music lasts a lifetime." Because, if my students practice the material five days a week, for a minimum of 30 minutes, their skills as well as confidence will grow. Read More

My teachingexperiencebranches back about seven years informally, and two yearsprofessionally. In 2014 i began giving private lessons for both individual musicians and full bands in studio prep. I have taught all ages and skill levels with the main focus on improving skill levels, building instrument confidence, and simulating the creativity of new andupcomingsongwriters. I have been a ghost writter for multiple bands over the last year and have written a total of 100 original tracks over my entire musical career. Read More

I've been teaching for about 7 years at all skill levels and truly enjoy connecting with students through lessons. I have taught a wide variety of styles from Hip-Hop to Jazz to Rock to Funk and the list goes on and on. While I think that being very thorough in technique and skill in reading notation is an important part of getting better at playing an instrument, it can still seem like you're all by yourself in the process unless you have someone to connect with and that's what I like to bring to your lessons. I believe in developing five core areas in musicianship: Theory/Understanding, Technique, Creativity, Reading, and Versatility. Initial lessons will identify the students strong points and weak points, and a personal strategy will be employed to help strengthen and balance the student overall. Many beginning classical musicians are able to read fairly well but have little to no comprehension of how and why the music works; while many contemporary musicians may have "chops" but lack in their ability to read and/or have proper technique. Prior to starting the formal lessons with the student, I like to understand why they want to play that particular instrument and the type of music that they enjoy. I also ask them about their musical experience. For example, can they read music, did they play any prior instruments, etc. Furthermore, to monitor each students' progress, I keep a lesson sheet that records what we worked on, what has been assigned, and any pertinent notes about the lessons. Nothing is more rewarding than sharing my passion for music with my students! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace Each student is an individual with a unique personality background, and therefore it is essential to meet the students where they are at. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

For students who are just starting to learn a new instrument, I would start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements method book. As the student progresses and has a good understanding of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their skill level. I try to find out what all of my students are interested in, and I adjust my instruction accordingly to make sure that the lessons are always engaging, and fun. Read More
