My teaching style is is a combination of an active and exciting engagement with the student but with a no-pressure relaxed environment that the student can be comfortable in. I fully invest myself into each of my students and keep track of their progress diligently to be sure to cater to their needs. Overall, I have fun playing music and I want you to experience the same thing. Learning a new skill can be tedious and tough at times but if you can find a way to make it musical and fun then you will have something that you can treasure for the rest of your life whether you want to do it for fun or become a professional. My teaching experience started as soon as I got into college teaching in music private school nearby, unfortunately due to my tight schedule with orchestra concerts and college I decreased the amount of students. I am a guitarist who loves nothing more than making music. I am primarily self-taught, and have been absolutely hooked by the guitar since I was 15. I majored in music in college, where I learned music history, theory, performance, and recording. Since graduation, I have been recording and performing original music all over the country. Read More

My first teaching experience, though not musical, was as a martial arts instructor at the Cuong Nhu dojo I attended from age 7 to 18. I was a teachers assistant by age 12 and would lead childrens and adult classes up to twice a week by age 14. This gave me experience teaching technique one-on-one as well as leading exercises for large groups ranging from 5 to 20 students. I work occasionally as a middle school math tutor. Read More

For students who are children I like to start to start learning rhythms through common children’s songs to show how easy music can be. Depending on the instrument, one of the many Hal Leonard books is always a good option. If they are a little older, I will use music that they like to teach how music theory and fundamental skills makes up all the musi they enjoy. We will often learn songs that speak to them and I will use their favorite genres to curate new songs to teach and show them new material and how it relates to their instrument. Read More

I have recently learned bass guitar as well. I encourage students to practice at least 20-30 minutes a day because even that little amount of time makes all the difference. I also love to incorporate creativity in my lessons with songwriting and improvisation. I also encourage students to participate in recitals as well. I am also the Director of the Early Childhood Program at the local music school so I have a lot of experience with ages 0-4 too. Read More

You can not use a "one size fits all" kind of approach when teaching an instrument. It is important to me that the student is involved in creating their musical journey, which means each lesson I teach and the way that I teach it will be different. I understand that not everyone learns the same way, and what may work for one student may not work for another. One of the things that has made me a better teacher is that I learn from my students.
