For beginning students, I normally start with Alfred's Drum Method. This book works on the fundamentals of reading snare drum music and basic technique. Once the students grasps the basics on reading and playing with a metronome then we tend to move to Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials (while still working on the Alfred's Method). After the student has began to play with the audio tracks and have succesfully gone through a few lessons from Groove Essentials then we begin to work on some solo repertoire and personal favorites as well. I like to give the students the tools to become their own teachers. As their private teacher, my goals are threefold: firstly, to help them build an understanding of the fundamentals of their instrument, including relevant techniques, posture, etc. Secondly, to help them build an understanding of musical concepts and of musicianship in general, including melody, harmony, rhythm, basic theory, etc. Thirdly, to help them cultivate a vibrant practice and playing program, including optimizing fun while practicing otherwise dry material, scaffolding their learning to extrapolate on what they already know, and giving them the tools to improve and develop with or without a teacher. I encourage people to do their best as well as go at their own pace. I set goals, If they exceed those goals in a week or 2 months, It doesn't matter, as long as they are trying their best. I make up games for the little ones, such as, having them to do online games involving music. For older students I try to still involve fun activities such as teaching them their favorite songs. There is one golden rule for all learning: do it and you'll get better at it. So the bottom line is you will improve according to how much you practice, and I cannot practice for you! I can however, convince you to LOVE playing your instrument (as I love playing mine!) This is one facet of my broader goal to instill a passion for music in general. I teach so that my enthusiasm, bolstered by critical listening skills, becomes contagious. Read More

I am a knowledgeable musician who enjoys teaching classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and musical theory. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Guitar Performance. During my time there I performed in the annual guitar ensemble recitals, honors recitals and my own senior recital. Since graduating I have gone on to teach a diverse group of students of all ages. Helping people understand the intricacies of music has been my goal and I'm happy to continue doing so. Read More

A flexible teacher can establish a clear methodology for instructing their class room while being open to adjustments. In the case of music, this could be missing instrumentalists, inconsistent skill levels amongst the players, or disinterest amongst the students. A passionate teacher can draw out interest and work ethic from any student if they can convey that they are eager and excited to be in the classroom, sharing their craft. Read More

I have been studying and playing music since I was 7. I began on saxophone in my school's concert band and jazz band proceded by my own musical endeavors on electric bass playing rock and jazz music. I spent high school gigging Philadelphia with The Paisley Haze Quintet. In my undergrad studies at University of Vermont, I picked up the upright bass, studying both jazz and classical styles. I became heavily active in the Burlington, VT music scene performing with such groups as: The Object Three, Nuevos Comediantes, Divine Lorraine, Anna Pardenik and the Holy Smoke-Off, Brass Balagan, Duke Aeroplane and the Wrong Numbers, and Grup Anwar. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
