My goal, whether a student purse a career in music or not, is to aid development becoming not simply an instrumentalist, but a musician. Most humans are taught to recognize colors, why not sounds? I encourage improvisation, composition and study of the masters, but my priority is that it all be fun: I wouldn't hold myself to drudgery and certainly wouldn't expect that of a student. I believe every individual possess an innate musicality- the trick is to prompt a student to develop musical skills, propelled by their own inner voice. Read More

I began teaching privately in high school at the age of 16, what started as one weekly lesson quickly became several; over that time I developed a strong passion for teaching. Watching a student's talent grow is extremely rewarding to me. Over the past 7 years I have taken my knowledge gained through my own studies and adapted them to my lessons. The best part for me as a teacher is having a student take the tools that I have given them, and create their own voice as a musician and artist. Read More

I began lessons, and regular practice from there on. This new interest in music stoked a fire in my dads soul to begin playing drums again. He'd played regularly in a band til he was 18. Read More

I began teaching private and group public school lessons in my later high school years; from there I decided that a career in teaching and performance was my calling. During college, I continued teaching private lessons and received the opportunity to teach general music for half a year in a K-8 public school. One of the highlights from my time there was leading a group of 8th graders in forming their own contemporary classical ensemble, composing their own music, going to a professional studio and recording themselves, planning and scheduling a concert, and performing their original music live in front of their peers. I also start my students with memorization of the fret board, starting from the low string down to the high string. After working through these fundamentals, I will have my student tell me a song they like, and I write out a sort of chart or diagram that gives the student the opportunity to play the whole song, which develops the endurance of guitar playing as well as the long term memory needed to play full length songs.
