I like method books like Hal Leonard , especially for the complete beginner - but  I supplement with other repertoire I have found throughout the years. I have been teaching guitar in NYC for the last 20+ years to both adults and kids. At this point, the student will have very quick and strong hands and will be able to play difficult songs. We also will dive into the "why" here.
