My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. Something to get them really excited about learning and practicing, and songs that they recognize and can show others. Read More

Hello! My name is Chris. I am a full time professional performer. My instrument is the bass (both double bass and electric bass). I have been playing the bass for about 20 years now. Before that, I had sung in choirs from a young age, and I continue to sing to this day. I also studied piano from age 8, which I truly believe helped my musical development immensely. The genres that I perform within the most are jazz, avant-garde, rock, and folk. Read More

I started playing guitar when I was 7, and music has been a huge part of my life ever since. I've performed countless shows in the New York/New Jersey area as well as many around Europe. I also write my own music, and would be happy to allocate lesson time to songwriting. I took guitar lessons for years at School of Rock Montclair, and I also attended the Berklee School of Music Guitar Sessions Summer Program during the summers of 2015, 2016 and 2017, where I studied mainly blues guitar and music theory. Having taught well over 300 students over the last 10 years, Jason does not subscribe to any one particular method of teaching, no matter if it's guitar, voice or bass. The pursuit of music and creativity is unique to each individual and, therefore, each individual needs to be taught differently to help them discover and maximize their own abilities.Jason is a highly accomplished musician who believes that learning to read music and understand music theory is vastly important, but doesn't use the same approach, resources, books, etc. for each student. Having studied guitar formally for 4 years at Berklee, I pull from materials that I found most helpful to me during my own education. These include scales, chords, modes, picking patterns and even solos. Aside from fundamentals and exercises, my favorite method of teaching is asking a student what they want to learn, a song they enjoy for example, and doing my best to teach the student how to play it and why it works from a harmonic perspective. As lessons progress another part of my teaching method is to teach students something they can be proud of. For younger students that might be a nursery rhyme they know all the words to and feel like they can perform for their parents, for older students it might be a song they love and hear on the radio and always wanted to learn how to play. By doing this early on I hope to show students that with their hard work they can make music they're proud of and show them the benefits of practicing and reaching goals. Read More
