Although I may be fairly new to formal teaching, my experience working in groups and sessions has taught me an incredible amount about humility and teamwork. I believe in placing emphasis on being a well-rounded person and musician above prioritizing skill on whatever instrument my students intend to learn. Being humble only increases your chances of success, especially if your talent is backed by humility and understanding. After all, there are no business or work relationships, only relationships. I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16 th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month.I want to get them off and running. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My other focus with all students regardless of interest is rhythm. I think that in a lot of guitar education there is lack of investment in this topic. I tailor my curriculum to each student based on their learning style, skill level, interests, and goals. If the student is a beginner, we will start with fundamentals. I then create more rewarding lessons as soon as possible, working in the fundamentals in a more enjoyable and musical way. If the student is more advanced, we will work on pursuing their goals and filling in any gaps in their understanding. Read More

My teaching philosophy is that students blossom at their own pace. Some concepts might be more difficult for some to grasp than others. Students may excel in some areas and struggle in others. I teach sustainable and kind methods of practice and learning. I believe that a teachers true job is to teach a student how to practice. I encourage short and long term goal-setting. I believe that what keeps any musician coming back to the woodshed is enthusiasm. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
