I have been steadily teaching private lessons since I was at Berklee, nearly 10 years ago. I almost always have taught lessons at my own studio where students come to me because that always seems to be the most conducive environment for learning and getting inspired. I've taught complete beginners at the toddler age, and even retired people in their 70s. I enjoy teaching because each student has different needs, different interests, and most importantly digest and internalize new information differently. Read More

I usually tend to focus on technique and posture when I'm dealing with a beginner. I'll get to introduce them the instrument itself and make them familiarize with the fretboard (with a special focus on bow and shifts when it comes to upright bass). Rudiments of ear training and harmony will follow as the students progress with their favorite tunes, etudes or a general introduction to styles (depending on the student's temper and instrument). My main goal in educating is to help a student develop a true passion for music. I strive to help a student, any age, better understand music theory and technique so that music can remain a part of their life and so that they have the tools to explore different genres as their tastes broaden. By being a positive and dependable resource in a students musical life I help students reach goals at a pace effective for them and hope to inspire musical growth long after the lesson is completed. I had years of teaching experiences back home to Italy in Upright Electric bass and trumpet and I supported as a musicians many Berklee Faculties during their classes. I love teaching to persons of any ages, but especially young students. I believe all of us have talent to play and make music, but sometime we don't know how to approach our talent. I always push to my students to be themselves and never imitate somebody else. Read More

Everyone is different. Some students learn faster by using their ears and some by reading. Both of these skills are clearly important but one will always be weaker. This is where knowing your student and what they're trying to achieve is important. Some students want to learn a simple drumbeat, some want to learn a specific song. I have two goals in my lessons. One: What does the student want to learn? Read More

Which is certainly reasonable! Others don't mind just plugging away at an exercise just for the pleasure performing it perfectly. But, it's certainly not the majority. Every lesson is taught with the students musicality in mind. Simply taking an exercise on one string and playing it over a beat and a chord can take that exercise from "the most boring thing in the world" to "I'm doing it! I'm playing the guitar and making music!" Read More

I usually take the first lesson to gauge what the student wants from learning their specific instrument. If they want to learn a specific song, if they want to get better at a certain genre, or if they just want something to do as a hobby! I believe it is counterproductive to force a certain system or lesson series that the student is not interested in. I have tons of practice books, scales, and warmups that I like to use to help the student become more proficient and confident in their craft. Read More
